If you’re looking for a career that will help you stand out, join HSBC, and fulfil your potential - whether you want a career that could take you to the top, or an exciting new direction, we offer opportunities, support and rewards that will take you further.
We’re one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world, with a network that covers more than 50 countries and territories. We aim to be where the growth is, enabling businesses to thrive and economies to prosper, and, ultimately, helping people fulfil their hopes and realise their ambitions.
We’re currently seeking an experienced professional to join our Comms Tech (CT) platform team in the role of Platform Engineer. We manage an extensive and dynamic portfolio, spanning over 180 HSBC Public Websites and the HSBC Intranet Workplace, delivering sleek, world-class digital experiences that resonate and connect HSBC colleagues and customers worldwide.
You’ll play a key part in shaping the Azure platform with end-to-end ownership — combining production support, automation and CI/CD with the opportunity to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
As an HSBC employee in the UK, you’ll have access to tailored professional development opportunities and a competitive pay and benefits package. This includes private healthcare for all UK-based employees, enhanced maternity and adoption pay and support when you return to work, and a contributory pension scheme with a generous employer contribution.
In this role you’ll:
- Own the VM image build and release process, keeping golden images current through hardening, patching testing and rollout
- Implement Azure Policy and governance controls across the estate, assessing impact and remediating drift and non-compliance
- Build and maintain infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines, moving manual work into repeatable and reviewed automation
- Develop reusable PowerShell modules and tooling for provisioning, configuration and operational tasks in production
- Configure and troubleshoot Azure networking including VNets, NSGs, private endpoints, DNS, load balancing and traffic routing
- Investigate complex platform issues across infrastructure, network and application layers using logs, monitoring and diagnostics
- Produce clear technical documentation that explains platform behaviour for engineers and business stakeholders
- Mentor and guide other engineers through review, practical support and setting a high technical bar
To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:
- Bring deep hands-on experience engineering Azure platforms in production at scale across compute, storage, networking, identity and governance
- Apply strong knowledge of ARM, resource lifecycle, RBAC, managed identities and the Azure Policy engine
- Build substantial PowerShell automation in production including reusable modules, testing error handling and tooling relied on by other engineers
- Design and troubleshoot Azure networking end to end including routing, DNS, load balancing and hybrid connectivity
- Operate VM image build and release processes such as Azure Image Builder, Packer or shared image galleries including lifecycle and versioning
- Deliver infrastructure as code in production using Bicep, Terraform or ARM including module design and pipeline management
- Interpret and implement governance controls at scale, assessing estate-wide impact and delivering compliant remediation at pace
- Diagnose complex production issues across infrastructure, network and application layers and act as an escalation point for technical resolution
