We’re looking for a highly motivated, hands-on Data Platform Engineer to support and evolve our data infrastructure on AWS and Databricks. This role is ideal for an engineer with strong DevOps or platform engineering experience who is interested in growing into Data Engineering and supporting Data Science workflows over time.
You’ll work closely with Data Engineering and Data Science to help maintain reliable, secure, and cost-effective cloud infrastructure, support platform operations, and contribute to data pipeline and tooling improvements. This is a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys wearing multiple hats, learning new disciplines, and growing their impact across DevOps, platform engineering, data engineering, and data science.
The interview process will include multiple rounds of virtual interviews. Candidates who advance to the final stage will be required to participate in an onsite interview at the San Diego Studio.
Responsibilities:
- AWS and Databricks support
- Support administration of AWS services and Databricks environments.
- Partner with Data Science and Data Engineering to help maintain platform configurations and support team needs.
- Assist with security best practices, network controls, and secrets management.
- Support relationships with external vendors and platform partners.
- Infrastructure and DevOps
- Contribute to Infrastructure as Code using Terraform for AWS and Databricks.
- Help maintain and improve environment provisioning across development and production.
- Support CI/CD workflows for infrastructure and platform changes.
- Assist with monitoring, operational support, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements.
- Data Engineering and platform enablement
- Support development and maintenance of data pipelines and integrations using Python, Spark, SQL, API Gateway, EC2, DynamoDB, Glue, and related AWS services.
- Assist with data quality checks, documentation, and operational best practices.
- Contribute to code reviews, testing, and engineering standards.
- Learn and grow into broader Data Engineering responsibilities with support from experienced Data Engineering team members.
- Partner closely with Data Science and provide support for Data Science workflows and related technical needs.
- Work closely with team to develop & QA new telemetry.
- Collaboration and enablement
- Work closely with data engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders to unblock delivery and support platform needs.
- Help internal teams identify optimizations and cost savings.
- Document designs, standards, and operational practices to help a small team move quickly and safely.
- FinOps and cost governance
- Support tagging, budgets, and cost visibility across cloud resources.
- Assist with rightsizing compute, storage, and job configurations.
- Help monitor usage trends, budget thresholds, and cloud cost optimization opportunities.
Required:
- 2+ years in platform engineering, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or related engineering roles with AWS experience.
- Experience with AWS core services in production environments.
- Experience with Databricks.
- Familiarity with AWS Budget and Cost Management, AWS Trusted Advisor, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
- Experience with CI/CD for infrastructure and platform changes using tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
- Understanding of security fundamentals including IAM/RBAC, least privilege, network controls, encryption, and secrets management.
- Strong communication skills and ability to operate effectively in a small, collaborative team.
- Willingness and aptitude to grow into Data Engineering and support Data Science workflows.
Bonus Skills:
- Proficient in Python and SQL.
- Experience with AWS ETL products such as Glue, Kinesis, or Lambda.
- Exposure to Spark or data pipeline development.
