The Steering Design Release Engineer is responsible for the design and validation of steering systems. The position will include all aspects of component design to ensure all system and vehicle level functional objectives are met. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing the release of the components, bill of material, CAD drawings, design verification plan, physical testing, management of suppliers, issuing change notices, vehicle build support, issue resolution, and PPAP.
The engineer will:
- Interface with Vehicle Engineering, suppliers, Purchasing, Quality and Assembly Plants.
- Manage product performance to meet functional, cost and weight targets.
- Perform product release and change management processes.
- Direct packaging in vehicle environment
- Manage supplier and internal DVP&R’s and DFMEA’s
- Support AQP, PSO, product launch, and ongoing maintenance of carryover product.
- Be responsible for design and release of designated components.
Develop and refine requirements considering functional, safety, reliability, and performance.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Automotive or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution or ABET equivalent.
- Minimum 8 years of related experience.
- Aptitude for mechanical engineering demonstrated by work experience or academic projects.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to interface with suppliers and internal cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong GD&T skill set.
- Strong project management skills/experience
- Proficiency in engineering disciplines, such as DVP&R, DFMEA, etc.
- Formal training/experience in problem solving, quality and reliability.
- Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Green belt / Black Belt certification.
- Action oriented and customer focused.
- Experience in manufacturing of vehicle components and vehicle assembly.
- Previous experience with steering systems.
