About the Role
Lead platform engineering for the compute, data, AI, and security infrastructure behind a biotechnology sequencing operation. You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership to build reliable systems that support lab operations and large-scale bioinformatics workflows.
What You'll Do
Own services that coordinate lab devices, on-premises Linux servers, and sequencing data ingestion.
Build AWS infrastructure and data pipelines to store, process, and deliver large volumes of sequencing data.
Design queues, workflow orchestration, and scheduling systems for bioinformatics workloads at scale.
Develop AI infrastructure and internal tools for operational monitoring, logistics coordination, and adaptive bioinformatics analysis.
Lead cross-functional projects from problem definition through production, connecting technical decisions to business outcomes.
Contribute hands-on to engineering work and mentor teammates on a small, collaborative team.
What We're Looking For
At least 5 years of platform, backend, or infrastructure engineering experience, including significant individual-contributor work.
Strong AWS orchestration experience with ECS, Batch, or Step Functions, plus Python backend development with FastAPI or Django.
Experience building and operating reliable distributed systems, including queues, orchestration, and state machines.
Knowledge of Linux server administration and distributed task queues such as Celery or SQS.
Experience scaling systems at a startup, ideally from Seed through Series C, and leading projects while mentoring engineers.
Familiarity with LLM or agent systems, including tooling, evaluation, safety, permissions, prompts, and workflow design.
A technical degree or equivalent experience, current knowledge of AI tooling, and genuine curiosity about biotechnology or scientific work.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary is $205,000 to $235,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available.
