Combining industrial automation and data analytics – looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our team!
Valmet as a global supplier of process technology, services, and automation for pulp, paper, energy, and process industries, we are part of society’s critical infrastructure, directly contributing to a sustainable future. Be part of the solution to the grand challenges of our time!
We are now looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to join our Industrial Data Analytics R&D team, where you’ll take an important role in shaping, automating, and scaling the platform infrastructure that powers our industrial data analytics solutions across cloud and industrial on-premises environments.
In this role, you'll work closely with development teams, system architects, and product owners to deliver advanced analytics and data-driven solutions for industrial customers. We focus on sustainable, high-quality engineering and developer self-service rather than short-term workarounds, aiming for lasting reliability and impact in a global market.
This position is located either in our Tampere or Vantaa office.
Your responsibilities
- Guide Platform Engineering: Contribute to and guide the technical direction of our infrastructure platform together with the system architect and engineering teams.
- Stay hands-on: Actively participate in platform implementation and problem solving.
- Automate Environments: Design and maintain repeatable, automated provisioning and teardown of Dev/QA environments using modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Develop cloud & on-premises platforms: Build, optimize, and maintain container platforms spanning AWS (Amazon EKS) and on-premises industrial setups using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, Rancher, Ansible.
- Streamline Packaging & CI/CD: Develop robust delivery pipelines and software packaging bundles for distributed, on-premises deployments.
- Enable Engineering Teams: Help developers and QA engineers adopt and troubleshoot platform services and environments.
- Advance DevSecOps & Supply Chain Security: Integrate security automation into build and deploy pipelines (TLS/certificates, identity management, and vulnerability scanning).
Expectations for you
- Solid experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or a similar role within a modern software development environment.
- Hands-on experience with containerized applications, Docker, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, configuration automation, and automated environment provisioning.
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, software packaging, release automation, and distributed systems.
- Ability to guide technical decisions, collaborate across engineering teams, and support developer enablement through strong problem-solving skills.
- Fluent English skills, both spoken and written.
- Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premises environments, modern platform technologies (AWS/EKS, OpenShift, Rancher, Terraform/OpenTofu, Helm, Ansible, Jenkins), secure software delivery practices, industrial edge environments, or identity management solutions such as Keycloak is considered an advantage.
To succeed in this role
To succeed in this role, you combine strong platform engineering expertise with a genuine passion for enabling others to succeed. You have a service-minded approach and enjoy collaborating with developers, architects, and other stakeholders to solve problems and continuously improve ways of working. You are proactive in identifying improvement opportunities and comfortable taking initiative to drive them forward. You thrive in a dynamic environment where priorities may evolve, while maintaining a long-term perspective and commitment to sustainable development. Most importantly, you are motivated to build and develop platforms, practices, and capabilities that create value for years to come.
We also expect you to align with Valmet’s Leadership Principles—practical behaviours that guide how we lead, collaborate, and succeed together:
- Take accountability – Act with ownership, set clear expectations, and follow through
- Lead with courage – Champion change, try bold ideas, and learn quickly
- Build on trust – Listen to understand, be open, and create psychological safety
- Collaborate for growth – Work across boundaries, value diverse perspectives, and focus on customer value
We offer
You will have the opportunity to influence a platform that combines cloud with real industrial systems, while working with experienced software, automation, and analytics professionals.
If you value long-term and stable R&D work with flexible hours and hybrid work options, you’ll feel right at home with us. We do not develop throw-away consumer apps; we build mission-critical industrial solutions designed to last decades and continuously evolve.
