Full job details

Our mission:

Are you an experienced DevOps Engineer who wants to make a real impact on cloud infrastructure serving millions of users worldwide? You'll work with Kubernetes, automate infrastructure and deployments, and collaborate closely with engineering teams to improve the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our cloud platform.
At Open-Xchange (OX), we develop open-source communication and collaboration software used by public sector organizations, telcos, and hosting providers to keep data secure and under their control. Our products cover email, collaboration, DNS security, and related services, and are used by millions of people worldwide.

Discover what OX offers you:

  • We work in a non-hierarchical organization that empowers everyone to take responsibility, stay focused, and contribute directly to the company’s success and customer value.
  • We value expertise and continuous professional development. Our professionals work closely with experienced colleagues, take ownership of their work, and continuously expand their skills.
  • Openness and diversity are core to OX. Different perspectives, backgrounds, and ways of thinking strengthen our collaboration and help us see the bigger picture.

Your team:

The OX Cloud team operates the cloud infrastructure behind our open-source products, serving millions of users worldwide. We work closely with engineering teams to automate deployments, improve scalability and ensure our platforms remain reliable, secure and observable.
We're cloud-native and Kubernetes-first, running our platform on our own infrastructure and increasingly on hyperscalers. Our goal is fully automated, declarative and hands-off operations. We're also evolving our DevOps approach and engineering culture, and you'll play an important role in shaping that journey.

Your new job:

  • Automate the provisioning of infrastructure, products and configuration with Terraform, Helm and GitOps (Argo CD) in collaboration with other engineering teams.
  • Run our production environments on Kubernetes, both on our own infrastructure and on hyperscalers.
  • Develop and maintain Helm charts, support other teams with Helm-based deployments, and extend the platform with Kubernetes operators where needed.
  • Contribute to the management and optimization of storage and database infrastructure.
  • Join our on-call rotation to handle incidents, troubleshoot issues and improve overall system reliability.
  • Collaborate with developers and other engineering teams across the product lifecycle, sharing your expertise and helping us continuously improve our engineering practices and culture.

This is the tech stack you'll be working with:

  • Platform: Kubernetes, on Linux
  • Automation: Terraform, Helm, GitOps with Argo CD
  • CI/CD: GitLab CI
  • Observability: Prometheus, Grafana
  • Languages: Go, Python, Shell
  • Databases & storage: MariaDB/MySQL, Cassandra, S3

Your background:

  • Several years of experience with infrastructure-as-code and declarative tooling such as Terraform, Helm or GitOps (e.g. Argo CD). A background in software development is a strong plus.
  • Practical experience operating Kubernetes clusters and workloads, including Helm charts, troubleshooting distributed systems and working with Kubernetes operators.
  • Solid Linux fundamentals and an understanding of orchestration, automation and declarative, hands-off operations.
  • Programming skills in Go, Python or Shell, along with experience contributing to CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab or Jenkins. Go is a plus.
  • Familiarity with databases and storage solutions. Experience with hyperscalers is a bonus.
  • Strong English communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with an interest in Open Source technologies and working in remote-first, multicultural teams.
  • Ability and willingness to work primarily within East Coast US business hours to effectively engage with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The company is not able to provide employment visa sponsorship at this time.

This is what you get at OX:

  • The flexibility to work 100% remotely ensures a work environment that suits you best.
  • Flexible working hours that allow you to successfully combine your home and family responsibilities with work.
  • Getting together in-person for workshops and fun team events.
  • Time off to volunteer – and mental health support when you need it.
  • We provide financial relief through corporate benefits and a subsidy for ergonomic chairs and desks.
  • We can discuss further location-related benefits together in an initial talk.
