We’ll support your development through structured learning, personalised development and hands-on experience, helping you grow with confidence.
Infrastructure Engineer
Our IT infrastructure platforms and technologies underpin all the business services used by our members and colleagues every day.
Infrastructure Engineering is responsible for the design and delivery of all new IT infrastructure, including software environment services, that enable our various Nationwide business technology domains, plus its ongoing maintenance and support. Our infrastructure provides robust and efficient platforms to our other technology colleagues (our internal customers) as well as encompassing the systems and tools our own teams use to do their jobs.
Our infrastructure teams often work across Nationwide’s business areas and transformation programmes, so that together we can deliver Nationwide’s strategic goals.
We also work closely with our IT Service Delivery and Security & Resilience teams, to ensure new and changing infrastructure is delivered safely and securely.
As part of our development programme, you’ll get the chance to dive into a specialist placement within IT Infrastructure. Right now, we’re offering analyst roles in the following areas:
Demand and Capacity Management
Data Centre Management
Where you’ll be working
You'll join our Technology teams within the Chief Operating Office where you’ll help design, build, secure and support the technology that underpins customer-facing and colleague-facing services across Nationwide. You'll work alongside experienced technology professionals, contributing to real projects while developing specialist skills in Infrastructure Engineering.
Location
At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. More rewarding relationships are supported through our hybrid approach, bringing colleagues together across our UK wide estate, whilst also supporting generous access to home working. We value our time in the office to solve problems, to learn, and to feel connected.
For this job you'll spend at least two days per week, based at our Swindon or Glasgow Head Office.
If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.
Responsibilities
What you’ll be doing on the Technology Development Programme
The Technology Development Programme is a two-year programme, with the next intake commencing in September 2027.
During the programme, you'll join high-performing teams that support Nationwide's technology platforms, engineering capability, cyber security and data services.
You'll start with an induction programme before joining our dedicated Technology Academy. Here, you'll learn more about Nationwide, connect with colleagues and build the foundations for your role. You'll also complete a personalised learning pathway combining role-specific training, digital learning and interactive workshops. You'll hear from leaders and industry experts, who will share fresh perspectives and practical ideas.
The Technology Academy will build your core technical capabilities before you progress into a specialist pathway in Infrastructure Engineering. Once you've completed the Academy, you'll join your team, where you'll gain hands-on experience and apply your skills to real business challenges.
No two days are the same. You could be collaborating with colleagues to solve technical problems or supporting technology projects. You might be analysing data, taking part in training sessions, or working with stakeholders to improve systems and services used across Nationwide. You'll gain exposure to modern technologies. You'll also learn how technical solutions support both customer-facing and colleague-facing experiences.
You'll be supported through mentoring, coaching, professional development and structured learning opportunities, helping you build confidence and develop specialist expertise. The programme combines technical, business and professional skills development, giving you the opportunity to grow while making a meaningful contribution from day one.
Depending on your pathway, you could gain exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, programming languages including Java, C# and Python, data platforms, automation tools and cyber security technologies.
Successful participants typically progress into specialist technology roles aligned to their pathway, with opportunities to continue building technical and leadership expertise over time.
Who we’re looking for on Technology Development Programme
We’re looking for driven, curious people with high standards and a genuine interest in technology. You’ll share our determination to push for better and put customers first, not just in what you deliver, but in every decision you make. You might be a recent graduate starting your career, returning to work after a break or ready to bring your professional experience to a new direction. Whatever your route, our Technology Development Programme will help you build the skills and experience for a rewarding career in banking.
To succeed on our Technology Development Programme, you’ll need to show:
Genuine curiosity about technology and how it improves customer experiences
Enthusiasm for solving technical problems and learning new technologies

A determination to push for better and put customers first in the decisions you make
Our customer first behaviours put customers and members at the heart of how we work together. They are the set of behaviours that every colleague needs to display, in every role:

Say it straight - We are brave in speaking out and saying what we think – we’re honest and direct with good intent, openly sharing diverse perspectives to reach the best conclusions and using language everyone can understand

Get it done - We prioritise what will have the greatest impact, we are decisive, and we take accountability for delivering brilliant customer outcomes.
