About the Role
Lead the platform engineering work behind the compute, data, AI, and security infrastructure for a biotechnology sequencing operation. You will combine hands-on engineering with technical leadership to build reliable systems that support lab operations and scientific data workflows.
What You'll Do
Own services that orchestrate lab devices, including robots, sequencers, and on-premises Linux servers, as well as the data ingestion pipeline.
Build AWS infrastructure and data pipelines to store, process, and deliver large volumes of sequencing data.
Design queues, workflow orchestration, and scheduling systems to run bioinformatics tasks reliably at scale.
Build internal AI infrastructure and tools for agentic systems that monitor operational quality, coordinate logistics, and support adaptive bioinformatics analysis.
Lead cross-functional projects from initial design through production, and mentor engineers while remaining actively involved in implementation.
What We're Looking For
At least 5 years of experience in platform, backend, or infrastructure engineering, with experience leading projects and mentoring engineers on a small team.
Strong AWS orchestration experience, especially ECS, AWS Batch, and Step Functions, plus Python backend development with FastAPI or Django.
Experience administering Linux servers and working with distributed task queues such as Celery or SQS.
A track record designing and shipping reliable distributed systems, including queues, orchestration, and state machines.
Experience building LLM or agent systems, including tooling, evaluation, safety and permissions, and prompt and workflow design.
A technical degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent experience, along with curiosity about biotech and scientific domains.
A hands-on approach, with at least 70% of time spent on individual-contributor work, and familiarity with current AI tooling.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $205,000 to $235,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is available.
