About the Role
Join the platform engineering team at a scientific data infrastructure company as its senior engineering anchor. You will shape the foundational data and execution platform that turns scattered laboratory data into a unified, queryable resource for scientists and AI agents.
What You'll Do
Own the platform's architecture, implementation, security posture, and scaling strategy.
Build and maintain data pipelines, APIs, microservices, and storage layers that structure diverse scientific inputs while preserving provenance.
Manage knowledge graphs with TypeDB and TypeQL, and vector search with Qdrant, to support hybrid retrieval.
Develop high-concurrency services in Go and Python, with controlled agent write boundaries and isolated execution environments.
Design service authentication, tenant isolation, secrets management, encryption, and other zero-trust security controls.
Own cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and observability using Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, GitHub Actions, OpenTelemetry, and Prometheus.
Establish SLOs, developer workflows, architectural standards, and code review practices while mentoring engineers and helping grow the platform team.
What We're Looking For
Three to seven years of platform or infrastructure engineering experience, including building and operating production backend infrastructure, data platforms, or distributed systems.
Strong proficiency with Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, and modern CI/CD systems.
Experience designing ETL or ELT pipelines for complex, unstructured enterprise or scientific data.
Hands-on experience with Go, Python, FastAPI, TypeDB or TypeQL, and Qdrant is relevant.
Scientific computing, computational biology, biotech data, or experience with SOC 2 and similar compliance frameworks is a plus.
Dedicated infrastructure engineering experience is important; this is not a backend software engineering role alone.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary range: $220,000 to $300,000 USD. Visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.
Location
On-site, five days per week in San Francisco, California, United States.
