Job Description:
This job is responsible for partnering with engineering and technology teams to improve reliability and observability for the services it supports. Key responsibilities include planning and implementing instrumentation, tooling, ticketing, alerting and on call routines as defined in observability designs, and engaging in production triage and Problem Management. Job expectations include supporting code enhancements to automate services and improve reliability and observability while expanding knowledge to identify gaps in the observability design or implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Develops software or system scripts to simplify or eliminate the dependence on human intervention for recurring tasks
- Identifies vulnerabilities and opportunities for reliability improvement, such as investigating low level error rates and 'noise' in monitoring, and to help define solutions to reduce manual support effort and/or improve system reliability
- Partners with solutions engineers and application teams to implement the necessary code changes to make use of common reliability libraries and tools and help Production Support and Application Development teammates understand how to use them
- Engages in an on call rotation and works with Production Support to transfer knowledge, update playbooks, conduct training for new monitoring capabilities, and learn more about reliability issues affecting portfolios
- Engages as a subject matter expert (SME) in Incident triage efforts, failure scenario modeling and works with Problem Manager to diagnose root causes for incident / problem management investigation
- Contributes to a catalog of reliability tools and libraries that can be leveraged for common instrumentation, automation, and operational needs by Application Production Services (APS) and Application Development teams
- Leverages guidance from the team and works with monitoring tools and Application Development teams to establish/enhance monitoring/observability solutions and plans created to support continuous improvement efforts
- Assist in translating business requirements into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks for deployment in compliance with architecture standards and policies.
- Conduct on-site evaluations of third-party products being considered for firm adoption.
- Assist in evaluation of reference models, blueprints and playbooks to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Develop software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes.
- Assist Technical Analysts and Infrastructure Engineers by ensuring that technology solutions comply with enterprise system design and engineering standards.
- Contribute to the creation/selection of functional and non-functional product evaluation requirements within and across domains.
- Act as a consultant on a range of technologies where he or she is a subject matter expert.
- Promote an inclusive and healthy working environment and help to resolve organizational impediments/blockers.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of Cloud Automation Engineer working experience
- Significant experience writing Hashicorp Terraform configurations and modules.
- Experience with Terraform Enterprise (TFE) tool for resource provisioning.
- Experience in DevOps and GitOps models with infra-as-code, config-as-code, policy-as-code, etc.
- Proficient in translating designs into fully developed Terraform code.
- Strong knowledge of cloud adoption framework etc.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts, subnets, routing, load balancing, firewalls, and cloud security.
- Experience in enterprise-scale environments, building highly available IaaS and PaaS solutions
- Understanding of landing zones, cloud-native security, monitoring and logging tools, and Well-Architected Framework principals.
- Experience with containers related technologies and CICD tools – Jenkins, pipelines, container repos, etc.
- Experience in programming and infra-automation tools – Terraform, Ansible, Java, python, etc.
- Experience in Cloud logging, monitoring, and observability tools
- Proficient in at least one scripting language (i.e. Bash, Python).
- Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- Excellent collaboration skills and ability to work in a global team
- Minimum 5+ years of Cloud Automation Engineer working experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in financial services industry
- Minimum of a 7-year degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
- Experience in various public cloud service providers
- Experience on technology and infrastructure teams
- Experience in Linux/UNIX system administration
